Mandatory registration for packaging in Denmark from 2024!
From April 1, 2024 until September 1, 2024, companies that place packaging on the Danish market must register. Until now, distributors only had to worry about the registration of
beverage packaging that was launched on the market in Denmark. However, the legislator has now closed this loophole. From 2024, they will also have to take care of packaging made of cardboard, plastic and all other packaging materials, regardless of whether it is household or
commercial packaging. This obligation also applies to foreign online retailers who offer their
packaged products directly to Danish consumers via their webshop or via Amazon. Danish legislation does not provide any minimum thresholds.
The introduction of the obligation will take place in 2 stages. Initially, companies will submit an estimated quantity of their packaging for 2024 and pay disposal fees from 2025.
If you sell products on the Danish market, you must register with the competent authority and join a recognized take-back scheme.

No more minimum thresholds in Finland, Estonia and Croatia!
On the European continent, all minimum thresholds for packaging are slowly disappearing.
Since May 2023, there has no longer been a de minimis limit in Estonia; companies must report even the smallest quantities of packaging sold in Estonia.
In Croatia, the amendment to the Packaging Ordinance in November also abolished the previous threshold. In addition, companies in Croatia are now also obliged to register single-use plastic products and fishing equipment made of plastic.
As of January 1, 2024, the minimum threshold of €1 million in annual sales will fall in Finland. This means that anyone selling packaged products in the land of a thousand lakes will no longer be able to avoid registration.
In all cases, you are also obliged to register as a foreign company, so if you sell products to these countries, especially via the Internet, you should take care of your registration as soon as possible.
It goes without saying that we are very familiar with these countries and will be happy to assist you in fulfilling your obligations. Get in touch with us now!
